Alvin C. Mrotek, age 93, a resident of St. Mary's at Felician Village, Manitowoc, died on Monday evening, Nov. 24, 2008, at St. Mary's. He was born on March 1, 1915, in the town of Centerville, son of the late Steven and Frances (Tomchek) Mrotek. Alvin owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Centerville. He also owned a sand and gravel pit which is still being used today. Alvin enjoyed playing and watching many sports, especially baseball and hunting. He also enjoyed playing sheepshead with his friends at Sacred Heart Court and at the home. He was a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, and a current member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community. Survivors include a sister-in-law: Betty Scheinoha, Manitowoc. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley, with burial at St. Casimir Church Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton, from 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, until the time of service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Alvin's name to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staffs at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Sacred Heart Court and St. Mary's at Felician Village for their compassionate care and support given to Alvin and his family.
