About St.Casimir

St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery was created in 1868. As a final resting place for the Polish immigrants as they settled the Eastern shores of Central Wisconsin. Most immigrants coming to Wisconsin suffered hardships and many lives were lost to the diseases they encountered. For the first three years, the cemetery buried the hundreds of children who died as a result of the immigration to America. The first adult burial occurred in March of 1871.

The Polish burial customs differed greatly from the German cemeteries that surrounded them. These differences are evidenced by the unique language and placement of the headstones throughout the cemetery that can be confusing to plot holders even to this day. Through the years the Polish became integrated with the local German families and today their are many German families also interred at St. Casimir.
