Mrs. Irene Macek, 52, died Tuesday evening at Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago, of injuries received when she was burned Nov. 25 at Chicago. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Leschke-Bergner Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Newton, with the Rev. Adam Markunas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at Newton. She was born April 23, 1910, at Newton, daughter of the late Nicholas Kuffel and Mrs. Helen Rohde Kuffel. She was educated at Manitowoc and worked for a time in the office at Weyerhauser Paper Corp., Manitowoc. She was married to John Macek in 1937 at Newton. Her husband preceded her in death in 1957. She was a member of the Homemakers Club of Newton and the Rosary Society of her church. Among survivors are a daughter (name omitted for privacy) of Chicago, her mother, Mrs. Helen Kuffel, of Newton and a sister, Mrs. Eugene Rytlewski, of Chicago. Friends may call after noon Friday at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by the Rosary Society and 9 p.m. by the church. Manitowoc Herald Times, January 3, 1963 P. 9 ******* Rule Newton Woman Died From Burns The death in Chicago Tuesday of a 52-year-old Newton woman, Mrs. Irene Macek, was ruled accidental by burns suffered in the apartment of her daughter last Nov. 25. The finding was announced today by Dr. Andrew J. Toman, Cook County Coroner, who said the routine inquest into the death—mandatory under Illinois law—was held by a member of his staff at a Chicago funeral home this morning. Mrs. Macek suffered the burns when her clothing caught fire as she was standing near a gas heater in the southside residence of her daughter, (name omitted for privacy), a registered nurse, whom she had been visiting. Mrs. Macek had been confined to Roseland Community Hospital since the accident. Following the inquest the body was released to the Leschke-Bergner Funeral Home at Manitowoc for return for last rites in that city. Services Saturday Services at the Manitowoc funeral home are set for 9:15 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 10 o’clock requiem Mass at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church at Newton. The Rev. Adam Markunas will be celebrant, with burial in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Friday until the time of services. The Rosary will be recited there at 9 pm. Friday. Mrs. Macek was born April 23, 1910, at Newton, a daughter of the late Nicholas Kuffel and Mrs. Helen Rohde Kuffel. She was educated in Manitowoc and employed at the Weyerhauser Paper Corp., there. She married John Macek at Newton in 1937 and the couple resided in Chicago until 1955 when they returned to Newton. He preceded her in death in 1957. Surviving, in addition to the daughter, Miss Bonnie, are her mother, with whom she lived, and a sister, Mrs. Eugene Rytlewscki, Chicago.
