John J. Macek, 44, an Inspector for the Manitowoc Engineering Co. living at Rt. 1, Newton, died Thursday night of a heart attack suffered while engaging in a fire drill with the Newton Volunteer Fire Department. He was taken to the nearby general store but was dead on arrival of a physician. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Leschke-Bergner Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Northeim, the Rev. Arthur Danks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born on July 24, 1912, in Chicago, son of the late Charles and Mary Havlichek Macek …(illegible line)…when he was employed by the local firm. On May 29, 1937, he married the former Irene Kuffel of Northeim. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Newton Volunteer Fire Department, and of Mchinists Local 516. Survivors include his wife; a daughter (name omitted for privacy) at home; and three sisters, Mrs. Harold Cromwell of Chicago, Mrs. Rudolph Kusyn?? of Newago, Mich., and Mrs. Louis Kusyn of Lamont, Ill. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. by the Holy Name Society and the parish.
